Meet Mike – Your Go-To IB Maths Tutor (and Resident Sigma). With 18 years of classroom experience and a global teaching career, Mike is a highly qualified Maths educator based in Glasgow, Scotland. He’s taught students from all over the world, specialising in International Baccalaureate Higher and Standard Level Maths, and is currently an external examiner for IB Higher Level Maths (Analysis and Approaches) Paper 2. Formerly a Head of Maths at YCIS Shanghai, Mike has also helped countless students succeed in IB, GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, and SQA courses.Mike is known not just for helping students achieve top results, but for his calm, confidence-building approach. His lessons are paced to suit each student, helping them rethink how they approach problems—leading to lasting progress and stronger self-belief.He spent 14 years in Shanghai working with diverse learners and families, gaining deep insight into international education and how to bring out the best in every student.Beyond Maths, Mike is also a stand-up comedian (check out Michael Herd Comedy) and the founder/host of Front Tier Comedy, a platform for top comedians and rising talent in the Scottish (and wider) comedy scene. He lives with his wife Lulu, son Lawrie, and a not-so-welcome shared love of hard rock (favourites include The Wildhearts, Gun, Skid Row, and Def Leppard). In his downtime, he’s into crime fiction, geopolitics, travel, and hillwalking.
